ROOT MOVEMENTS (moments)

Ciarra K. Walters, Untitled (The Valley, California), 2021

Root Movements (Moments) is an ongoing self-portraiture study exploring the connection between the Root Chakra, represented by the color red, and nature. In ancient Indian traditions, chakras are believed to be internal spinning wheels of energy within our bodies. Several years ago, I discovered the profound influence color has on our lives.

I once heard that the color you are most drawn to reflects the chakra you are in the process of healing. If you wish to heal a specific chakra, surrounding yourself with its corresponding color can aid the process.

The Root Chakra, located at the base of the spine, is the first chakra. It governs feelings of stability, safety, and security, grounding us in the physical plane.

Through the color red, I channel the Root Chakra’s energy, building a connection between my movements and the environments around me.
